What's new in Tally

April 26 – May 3, 2026

The headline this week is a redesigned transactions experience — multi-row filter toolbar, per-account-type grouping, and named Saved Searches so any filtered view becomes a custom report you can return to with one click. Plus drag-to-order categories, a per-asset performance breakdown that shows the math, and SBLOC support in the forecast.

Saved Searches — turn any filter into a report

The transactions page got a top-to-bottom toolbar redesign and a new "Saved Searches" capability. Pick a date range, accounts, categories, type, review status, search text — then save the combination as a named view you can return to with a click. Income / Expenses / Net totals follow the filter set, so any saved search doubles as a custom report.

  • Per-household named filter presets. Saved Searches are shared across the household, so any member can apply "Q1 Travel" or "Subscriptions audit" without rebuilding the filter set.
  • The accounts dropdown now groups by account type with a type-level select-all, so picking "all credit cards" or "all investment accounts" is a single click.
  • A new "With Notes" filter shows only transactions you've annotated, and the search box now matches inside user notes too.
  • A filtered totals strip appears below the table when any filter is engaged — Income, Expenses, and Net for the current view, so the toolbar doubles as an ad-hoc P&L.

Order your categories the way you think about them

Settings → Categories now supports drag-and-drop reordering for both category groups and the categories within them. The order you choose flows everywhere categories are displayed — no more alphabetical sort overriding the structure that makes sense to you.

  • Reports group totals, the budget grid, the transaction filter dropdown, and every inline category picker all follow your order.
  • Inline category dropdowns now indent categories under their group, so the visual hierarchy mirrors your settings page.
  • Six redundant alphabetical re-sorts were removed across the codebase — the order you set is the order you see, period.

See exactly how your real growth was computed

Click any row in the per-asset breakdown on the Asset Performance page to open a detail modal that explains the calculation. Start and end balances, contributions in, withdrawals out, dividends, fees, rebalances, and the reconciliation formula — all spelled out, per linked account.

  • See the Δ Balance − net external flows = real appreciation formula applied to your actual numbers, with each component traceable back to the transactions that produced it.
  • Cash-category assets (checking, savings, MMAs, CDs) now correctly report zero appreciation when balance gaps exist — yield-bearing growth still flows through your transactions, but unexplained drift no longer pretends to be investment performance.
  • A new cash_reconciliation_gap warning surfaces on the detail page when balances and transactions disagree — so you can decide whether to add a missing snapshot or flag the gap.
  • Imported balance snapshots are now stamped with end-of-yesterday, so the engine never picks up a just-imported balance as today's "true" position.

Securities-Backed Lines of Credit, modeled properly

If you've ever borrowed against a brokerage account — or you're considering it — Tally now models it end-to-end. A new SBLOC liability type accepts multiple pledged assets in explicit drawdown order, supports interest-only payments with a balloon at term end, and reserves the right amount of collateral (loan × buffer) so pledged assets don't double-count toward liquid net worth.

  • Multi-asset collateral. Pledge a brokerage and a Treasury position to the same loan; required collateral walks the list in your specified order, fully encumbering each before moving on.
  • Interest-only with balloon. The forecast pays interest only during the term and forces the remaining principal in the final year — exactly how most SBLOCs actually work.
  • Smart deficit funding. If a future year has a cash shortfall, the allocation engine taps available SBLOC headroom before selling unpledged investments — modeling how a real household with a line would behave.
  • Spending that can't be funded any other way no longer silently disappears from the projection — it accrues as Unfunded Spending at 12% APR and appears as a row in the per-year breakdown.

Quality-of-life improvements

Smaller upgrades you'll probably notice.

Income & Expense seasonality, end to end

Income and Expense records can now carry a 12-month dollar distribution (a holiday bonus in December, summer travel, school tuition in September). Budgets seeded from the forecast respect that distribution per record, and the YTD KPI on the Income page now prorates by months active — an income that starts December no longer reads as a full year of revenue.

Transaction list: notes, multi-account, bulk actions

The description column now shows a sticky-note icon when a transaction has a user note (with the note on hover) — surfacing context that previously required opening the edit modal. The account filter is multi-select with a portal popover, and you can bulk exclude transactions or link them to an account from the row checkbox toolbar.

Self-serve "Reset Data" on your Profile

A new Danger Zone on the Profile page wipes all financial data (transactions, accounts, assets, liabilities, budgets, scenarios, chat history, external connections) without losing your login, profile, or tax history. Useful if you want to start fresh after a long sandbox session — and far less terrifying than asking us to do it.

Budget precision, down to the cent

Budget monthly amounts are stored in cents under the hood, so $100 spread across 12 months no longer rounds to $99 or $108 — the modal shows 4×$8.34 + 8×$8.33 and the math sums to exactly $100. The grid still displays rounded dollars for readability; open a line modal to see and edit the exact figures.

Image uploads on support tickets

You can now attach a screenshot to any comment on a support ticket, not just the original report. If something looks off mid-conversation, we can finally see the same screen you're seeing.

Reports got a unified date model

Every report (Expense, P&L, Year-End, Asset Performance, Net Worth History) now uses the same date intent (period + year, months-lookback, ad-hoc range, or all-time). Your selection persists per report. All-time on Net Worth History no longer hides households whose first liability predates their first asset record.

Bug fixes

Fixes

Small things that were wrong. Now they're right.

  • Asset Performance: cash-category accounts (checking, savings, MMA, CDs) no longer show "phantom" appreciation when balance gaps exist — the residual is data noise, not growth.
  • Asset Performance: per-asset detail page now flags a cash_reconciliation_gap when balances drift inexplicably, instead of silently absorbing it as appreciation.
  • Performance engine: transactions on the start day are no longer double-counted in the period totals.
  • Budget rollover: fixed compounded annual/quarterly totals on the budget summary cards.
  • Plaid sync: a transient balance failure no longer aborts the rest of the sync — your AI categorization still runs even if one account's balance can't be captured.
  • Plaid investment income (dividends, interest, fees) now picks up an AI category on import, instead of landing in the review queue blank.
  • Liabilities list now reads its linked asset from the collateral table, so a mortgage that pledges multiple homes shows the right primary collateral.
  • Plaid / SnapTrade disconnect now wipes linked accounts and transactions atomically, scoped to the user — no orphan accounts left behind, no other users' data ever touched.
  • Scenarios: the Down Payment Source dropdown on the scenario AssetForm now populates correctly (was empty for new asset overrides).
  • Resend webhook: email "clicks" are now also counted as "opens," since clicking implies opening — fixes undercounted engagement on plain-text email clients.
  • Transaction notes: Plaid system metadata moved to its own column, so the user-note icon only appears on actual user notes.

Try Saved Searches today

Open the Transactions page, build a filter you reach for often, and click "Save". Then drag your category list into the order that matches how you actually think about your spending — every report and budget will follow along.
