What's new in Tally

April 12 – April 19, 2026

The headline this week is Events — a new way to anchor your financial plan to named life moments instead of hard-coded dates. Plus a much smarter chat, one-click imports from the big four competitors, and a pile of polish across balances, reviews, and reports.

Events — name the moments your plan hinges on

Instead of typing the same retirement date into a dozen places, create a single Event called "Jane's retirement" and attach it to every record that depends on it. Slide the event a year later and your entire plan moves with it — in every scenario, everywhere.

  • Anchor incomes, expenses, asset acquisitions and sales, asset maturities, liability start and payoff dates, contributions, and forecast overrides — anywhere you used to type a date.
  • Re-date an event per scenario. Your "retire at 62" scenario and your "retire at 67" scenario share the same plan — they just resolve the retirement event differently.
  • Your events now appear as markers on the forecast chart, so you can see exactly when income stops, a home is purchased, or college starts.
  • Every Life Event wizard template — 18 in all — understands events, and you can create them right from chat.

A much smarter chat assistant

Tally's built-in chat is now powered by Claude Sonnet 4.6 and knows every part of your plan. Ask it to add a mortgage, set up a 401(k), or create an event — it handles the mechanics and shows you what it's about to change before it saves.

  • 14 new recipe tools bundle the right record types together — one "Add Mortgage" command creates the liability, links the house as an asset, and computes the amortization.
  • Chat can now create and edit events, and every date field on every tool accepts an event instead of a literal date.
  • A new Add Record chooser on the Income, Expense, Asset, and Liability pages lets you add things manually or hand off to chat.

Bring your history from YNAB, Monarch, Copilot & Rocket Money

Export a CSV from your old tool and drop it into the Tally importer. Transactions, accounts, categories, and budgets all come in together — no more starting from scratch.

  • Each competitor has a dedicated adapter that maps their data model into Tally's — your categories come across, not generic "imported" buckets.
  • Every imported transaction flows through the same 4-tier categorization and AI review pass you already use for Plaid imports.
  • Account types, merchant names, and budgets are preserved — and duplicates are deduped automatically if you re-upload.

Contributions can now come from another account

If you're moving money between your own accounts — say, Savings to an IRA — the forecast now models it as an internal transfer instead of phantom income.

Debit and credit in parallel

The contribution amount is drawn from the source asset and added to the destination, so your net worth stays honest.

Capital-gains aware

When you contribute from a taxable brokerage, Tally recognizes pro-rata capital gains. Qualified rollovers can opt out with one toggle.

Stops when the source does

Contributions are capped at the source balance — you'll see a clear warning rather than a silently overfunded account.

Polish

Quality-of-life improvements

The changes you'll probably notice first.

Every household member can now connect accounts

Plaid and SnapTrade connections used to be scoped to one person — a partner who linked their bank saw their data, but nobody else did. Now connections belong to the household, so everyone sees everyone's accounts.

Daily Plaid balance updates — free

Your balances now refresh once a day automatically from the same Plaid data that syncs transactions, instead of relying on a slower computed projection. No more stale "as of last sync" balances.

Budget rollover badges + Expand/Collapse all

Budget vs. Actuals now shows a "rollover" tag on categories with rollover enabled, so the numbers make sense at a glance. Every report page (Budget vs. Actuals, P&L, Expense, Balance Sheet) gained Expand All / Collapse All buttons.

"You're all caught up" in the review queue

Finishing a review batch now shows a celebratory empty state with a button to return to the full transaction list, instead of a generic "no transactions found" message.

Review banner stays in sync

The "N transactions to review" banner and counts now update immediately after you confirm or accept a batch — no more stale numbers from cache.

Bug fixes

Fixes

Small things that were wrong. Now they're right.

  • Category dropdowns: trackpad scrolling no longer gets stuck on the highlighted row.
  • Liability form now saves correctly for non-amortizing types (lines of credit, student loans, etc.).
  • Report drill-down modals filter by category ID, so renaming a category no longer breaks saved drill-downs.
  • Re-categorizing a transfer correctly updates its type and disconnects the paired transaction.
  • Budget reseed now merges "HOA Fees" by category ID instead of name — no more duplicate line items after rename.
  • Subscription report catches substantially more recurring charges.
  • Household invitation accept no longer fails on unique-constraint errors.
  • Lease term end-date is no longer off by one month.
  • Email footer links and unsubscribe tokens work correctly in bulk sends.
  • Asset sale proceeds are never silently dropped — the forecast now requires a destination account.

Try Events in your plan

The best first test: replace your retirement date with an event called "My Retirement", attach it to your W-2 and 401(k), then move the date. Watch your whole forecast shift in one move.
